Fort Walton Beach Thanksgiving Dinner

While some restaurants may be closed to celebrate the big day with their own families, several in Fort Walton Beach and the surrounding area will be open. They’ll be ready to serve you and your loved ones a traditional Thanksgiving feast with all the trimmings. Contact your restaurant of choice for details and reservations. Ask about take out or catering so you can warm up the meal at your rental and avoid the crowd.

Recycle Run

Stretch your legs and work up an appetite on your Fort Walton Beach Thanksgiving morning. The annual event is a “no-frills” 5K on a fast and flat out-and-back course through the beautiful downtown of Fort Walton Beach. All awards presented are recycled trophies and awards from past races. There is no packet pick up prior to race day but show up early to get your bib number. Awards for runners include Overall Male and Female, Master, and Grandmaster. Male and Female three deep in five-year age groups. Awards for walkers include Overall Male and Female, followed by the next five Male and five Female. The cost is $10 for runners or walkers. Online registration closes Tuesday, November 23 at midnight Eastern. Registration at the rain or shine event is allowed. The race starts at Fort Walton Beach Landing Park.

Fishing

Along with other beach activities, anglers will want to schedule some time to catch their next big fish story. There are several charters that do deep sea, near shore, and in shore trips. Spend a day or half-day out on the water. Bring home your catch and grill it up at your rental. Don’t forget essentials like sun screen, a hat, and whatever else you need. Many charters include the cost of bait, tackle, and poles in the cost of the trip. You can also rent gear for some extra time after the trip.

Emerald Coast Golf Tour Pro-Am

Golfers will want to arrive the weekend before Thanksgiving. That’s when they’ll get their exercise in anticipation of a delicious meal on Thanksgiving Day. The golf tournament takes place at Kelly Plantation this year. Kelly members can register for $175. Amateur entry fee is $225 for Saturday and Sunday, with the price going up to $240 after November 14. Professional entry fee for Saturday-Monday is $795 for members and $955 for non-members. Contact the Kelly Plantation golf shop for more information and to obtain a registration form. The pro-am is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, November 20 and 21, and the professionals wrap up their tournament on Monday, November 22.

The Beach

When you come to a beach town in Florida, you’ll want to make sure to schedule in some time on the sand, no matter what season it is. While the water may be a bit cool for swimming, snorkeling, or other water sports, you can lay out and soak up the sun, or set up your beach umbrella and nap or read a book while you watch the kids play in the sand. Make sure to pack some snacks or a picnic if you plan to be out for a while, along with anything else you may need for your perfect day by the waves this Thanksgiving holiday.

Indoor Activities

There are plenty of indoor activities in the area to enjoy when you need a break from the beach. From malls, outlets, and movie theaters to science centers, marine parks, and museums, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. During your Thanksgiving visit, you can catch an anticipated new release at the theater. Challenge yourself and your group members to a mystery at an escape room, or make your own fun with books, movies, toys, games, and more back at your accommodations.
