Fly Into Spring Kite Festival
There is nothing that will quite remind you of your childhood here at the beach more than flying your kite in the windy skies. Flying a kite has coexisted with family vacations for generations and is sure to be a fun way to spend your time at Fort Walton Beach. One of our favorite annual events returns this April with the Fly Into Spring Kite Festival presented by Kitty Hawk Kites. This two-day event is located at the Okaloosa Island Boardwalk and is free to attend. You will not find your typical kites found at the local store but instead massive kites that will flutter in the wind 30 to 100 feet above you. Professional kite performances will be held both days for you to watch along with live music, hands on activities, and the option to fly your own kite as well. There will be free kite making workshops for children to enjoy to help them create their own masterpiece in addition to free stunt kite lessons. This year’s Fly Into Spring Festival will take place April 5th through the 6th right here at Fort Walton Beach.
6th Annual International Festival
One of the best parts of living around Fort Walton Beach is the community. You will find a friendly and welcoming community that loves to see visitors return time after time supporting the local area. The community is a group of all nationalities that shows how inclusive Fort Walton Beach can be. This year will see the return of the Annual International Festival that focuses on world unity with a variety of activities to enjoy. This single-day event is absolutely free to attend and offers tons of family fun. A live music stage will showcase local DJs and live bands for a day full of live music. You can enjoy dance productions by folkloric groups too. Local vendors will be on hand with delicious international food and drinks to keep your hunger at bay. The event will benefit the Advanced Sacred Hope Academy that is a local nonprofit school for children with neurological disorders. Come experience the 6th Annual International Festival taking place this year on Saturday April 27th at Liza Jackson Park. The event will run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM for a full day of festivities.
Sandestin Wine Festival
You will also find plenty of lively April events in Fort Walton Beach taking place in our neighbors of Miramar Beach that are just a short drive from our vacation rentals. One such event, the Sandestin Wine Festival, will be hosted this upcoming April over in Miramar Beach. This is a long standing tradition in the area that will be its 38th annual event. The Sandestin Wine Festival is a four-day event that highlights a little fun under the sun. This long standing event brings together like minded people for a weekend of learning all about your favorite wines and enjoying a few pairings as well. The Sandestin Wine Festival features hundreds of different wines you can taste. Each day offers something new to experience as well.
The event kicks off on Thursday April 10th with winemaker dinners where you can enjoy a fine dining meal with a winemaker. The main event of the Sandestin Wine Festival is the Grand Wine Tasting taking place Friday April 11th and Saturday April 12th. This is your typical festival experience where you can walk around trying out wines from the many wineries on hand. You will find all kinds of wine to enjoy from reds to whites and anything in between. The event will come to a close on Sunday April 13th with a variety of brunch events to choose from.
