3-Day Journey to Fort Walton Beach

While many travelers dream of the option to enjoy weeks at a time away from the daily grind, the realistic timeline of a getaway is often very different. Fortunately, if you pick the right place to enjoy, even a short trip can make a big difference in how restored and rejuvenated you feel in life. Fort Walton Beach, Florida is one of those places with the power to deliver up tons of fun in a short timeframe. If you happen to have three days free to enjoy a Fort Walton Beach vacation, a journey this way should definitely include the following stops, savory adventures, and fun activities.

Day 1: Have Some Fun in the Sun

Begin your first day of Fort Walton Beach fun with a breakfast enjoyed at the Neighborhood Café. Located at 417 Mary Esther Cutoff NW, this cozy breakfast stop is a great place to enjoy everything from omelets and pancakes to French toast paired with a hot cup of coffee. Neighborhood Café is open daily from 6:00 am until 2:00 pm so there’s no need to rush if you feel like starting things off with a sleep-in day.

After you’ve had your fill of fantastic breakfast fare, make your way over to the Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier. If you’re an early adventurer, you’ll find this place to be wonderfully tranquil and providing just the right moment to enjoy the view over the water and sand. If you’re coming here towards afternoon, expect more of a crowd as fellow travelers take to the beach and shops along the Pier begin to open.

A journey to Liza Jackson Park is next up. This beach park is a great place to settle into the sand, make the most of the on-site dog park if you’re traveling with a canine companion, or take advantage of the boat launch. Overall, it’s a scenic and inviting place to spend a few hours soaking up the sun and enjoying the many vistas.

End day one with a meal at The Crab Trap. This restaurant is located at 1450 Miracle Strip Parkway SE and features fantastic waterfront views paired with menu options that showcase some of the best seafood around. Top it all off with a sunset-inspired cocktail and call it a day.

Day 2: On the Water Adventure

Today is a day to get out on the waves, so you’ll want to first fuel up with a breakfast enjoyed at none other than The Breakfast Place. Situated at 789 Beal Parkway NW, The Breakfast Place is a family-favorite stop where you can savor everything from scrambled eggs and pancakes to breakfast wraps that are packed with protein.

Once you’ve enjoyed your first meal of the day, head over to Fort Walton Beach Landing Park. This is a great place to enjoy some time on the sand, watch the waves roll in, spend some time snorkeling, or let the little ones play on the playgrounds that dot the landscape.

When you’re ready to get on the water, renting a pontoon at True Blue Pontoon Boat is the way to go. A quick overview of how to control the vessel allows you to head out to open waters at your own pace. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for dolphins as you do!

Tonight, make it a point to dine at The Shack. Easily found at 104 Miracle Strip Parkway SW, this vibrant eatery is a great place to pair calamari with a fantastic cocktail and watch the sun go down in true Florida style.

Day 3: History, Culture, and More

On your final day in Fort Walton Beach, breakfast at The Little Griddle comes highly recommended. Found at 118 Brooks Street SE, this eatery offers up mouthwatering breakfast sandwiches, biscuits, and griddles in abundance.

Once you’re full, make your way to the Heritage Park and Cultural Center where you’ll want to spend some time exploring historic landmarks like the Indian Temple Mound Museum and the Camp Walton Schoolhouse Museum.

A visit to the Air Force Armament Museum is up next and is sure to be a highlight for those that love battle history. Here, you can get up close to amazing aircraft and learn more about the evolution of aircraft war weaponry.

Finish the day off with a stroll through the Destin Harbor Boardwalk to enjoy popping into the many shops that dot this area and watching the boats sail by. Dinner takes you to Magnolia Grill where you can pick and choose options from a menu that feature fantastic Italian and American fare.
