Fort Walton Beach may be famous for its beautiful beaches, but what many visitors may not realize is that the area is also a hub for fantastic Fort Walton golf courses. Below, we’ve laid out a day to day golf course itinerary for a golf enthusiast’s trip to Fort Walton Beach!
Day 1: Fort Walton Beach Golf Club
Start your FWB golf journey close to your home away from home at Fort Walton Beach Golf Club. Here, you can play two 18-hole championship golf courses: the Pines course and the Oaks course. The Pines consists of a dynamic design spanning 6,800 yards of upland pine forest. The Oaks boasts over 6,400 yards, consisting of difficult water hazards and narrow fairways lined in oaks.
Day 2: Shalimar Pointe Golf Club
Located in the nearby town of Lake Lorraine, Shalimar Pointe Golf Club is a par 72, 18-hole championship course with a finger/dye design that covers a layout of 6,765 yards. Within the course, you’ll encounter pristinely manicured greens and bunkers strategically placed to give you more of a challenge. Each hole has five sets of tees, in addition to the onsite practice facility with a chipping green, putting green, and driving range.
Day 3: Bluewater Bay Golf Course
Bluewater Bay Golf Course is nestled along Choctawhatchee Bay, offering a diverse terrain of bay, marsh, and lake settings over three 9-hole golf courses designed by famous FWB golf course architects Jerry Pate and Tom Fazio.
Day 4: Emerald Bay Golf Club
Like Bluewater Bay Golf Course, Emerald Bay Golf Club also borders Choctawhatchee Bay. However, Emerald Bay Golf Club has recently been redesigned by the world renowned golf course architect Bob Cupp, who designed the first course. The course is famous for its bay views and multiple water features.
Day 5: Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club
Not far from Emerald Bay Golf Club is Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club, where views of Choctawhatchee Bay and white sands abound. Secluded yet open to the public, this Robert C. Walker-designed golf course provides a challenge for players of all abilities over the course of nearly 7,000 yards and a par 72 course. The course has received multiple accolades from Golf Digest, Florida Golf News, and Emerald Coast Magazine.
Day 6: FWB Golf at Kelly Plantation Golf Club
West of Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club is Kelly Plantation Golf Club. Like Regatta, Kelly Plantation Golf Club also enjoys stunning views of Choctawhatchee Bay. Play your way across 18 semi-private holes built atop a former turpentine plantation, home to bayous, waterfront playing areas (including 11 lakes), tall trees, wide fairways, enormous greens, and dynamic hazards.
Day 7: Indian Bayou Golf & Country Club
In the nearby city of Destin, you’ll find Indian Bayou Golf & Country Club, rounding out our list of golf courses located along the bay. Indian Bayou Golf & Country Club is home to two 9-hole golf courses: Seminole, which requires accuracy due to its variety of pin placements and treacherous water hazards in contrast to the forgiving fairways and vast greens, and Choctaw, which has only two par 3s and tricks you with the hazard placement on the longer holes.
